picnic on the banks of the marne, 1938

how was your weekend, friends? i'd say mine was a success. it was filled with friends, picnics, croquet, ice cream, soccer and laughs. all very summer, no?

speaking of picnics, i saw this photo in the henri cartier-bresson show at the moma last week and it keeps returning to my mind. i just love it, the composition, the texture of the scene, the man pouring the wine. i wonder what was on the menu that afternoon and what they're chatting about as they enjoy their meal?
such a lovely peak into a moment long forgotten. long live picnics.
